In 2025, 330 healthcare facilities were repaired in the Nizhny Novgorod region
The Nizhny Novgorod region has seen major improvements in healthcare after a 4.7 billion ruble investment under Governor Gleb Nikitin. The funding, part of national projects, has led to lower mortality rates and upgraded medical services across the area. Key areas like cancer care, infant health, and emergency response have all benefited from the initiative.
Between 2020 and 2025, the region directed 4.1 billion rubles to the Healthy Longevity project and 600 million rubles to the Family programme. These efforts resulted in a 45.3% drop in infant mortality since 2019. Deaths from heart attacks also fell by 12.7%, while one-year cancer patient mortality decreased by nearly 30%.
Emergency services received over 150 million rubles, enabling air ambulances to evacuate 344 patients. Another 380 million rubles went toward cardiovascular disease prevention, with over 24,700 high-risk patients receiving essential medications. The region renovated 330 healthcare facilities—nearly half the total upgrades made in the previous six years. Modernisation efforts included 22 new vehicles, 12 mobile medical units, and over 2,000 pieces of equipment for primary care. New programmes were also launched to combat hepatitis C and diabetes, offering full antiviral treatments and continuous glucose monitoring systems.
The 4.7 billion ruble investment has transformed healthcare in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Renovated facilities, expanded emergency services, and targeted disease prevention have all contributed to measurable improvements. The region now reports lower mortality rates and better access to medical care for residents.
