In the Siberian region of Yakutia, it's been confirmed that 34 lives were successfully saved due to the efficient functioning of autonomous fire alarms.
Autonomous Fire Alarms in Yakutia Save 34 Lives Since 2025
Since its implementation in January 2025, a social campaign called "Prevent Fire - Install AFD" in Yakutia has saved 34 lives, six of them children. Olga Andreyeva, an engineer from the fire prevention department of the Yakutia State Fire Service, shared these statistics on the "Dialogue with Power" radio show.
The campaign has been successful in instilling the importance of autonomous fire alarms (AFD) in preventing and detecting fires at an early stage. As stated by Andreyeva, these devices are battery-powered, typically installed in the kitchen, and have helped in evacuating residents in case of fire.
According to the Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of Yakutia, a total of 1,726 AFD units have been installed within the framework of the campaign as of January 2025. Special attention has been paid to the families of home front veterans and war children—303 devices have been installed in their homes.
Among the campaign participants, 361 employees of the Yakutia State Fire Service visited 995 families, installing 1,078 alarms and 181 in veterans' homes. Alongside them, 248 representatives from other organizations helped in installing 648 alarms in 629 families, with 122 being installed in the homes of home front veterans and war children.
The campaign, which began on February 5 and will continue until December 31, is being held in conjunction with the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in Russia and the Year of the Defender of the Homeland in Yakutia. Its objective is to encourage residents of the republic to install autonomous smoke fire alarms and to aid those who need protection.
Participation in the campaign is open to everyone—residents, government representatives, and various organizations. Campaign participants are expected to purchase the alarms and install them in their homes or in the homes of those in need.
Since its launch in 2021 until the present, 14,708 families have participated in the campaign, leading to the installation of 18,430 AFD devices. However, the report did not provide information on the effectiveness of the campaign based on criteria such as the number and scale of fires, fire-related casualties, property damage, official reports, or independent analyses.
These measures aim to lower fire-related incidents in Yakutia, safeguarding the lives and properties of its residents.
*The campaign, which emphasizes the significance of autonomous fire alarms (AFD) in promoting health-and-wellness by preventing fires, has been successful in encouraging residents to install these devices.* Science plays a crucial role in the campaign, as it provides the technology for the battery-powered AFD devices used in kitchens, helping to save lives and improve overall health-and-wellness in Yakutia.
