Interior Health Launches Pilot to Boost Rural ER Care with Virtual Doctors
Interior Health is introducing a pilot program to tackle staffing shortages in rural emergency rooms. The plan involves virtual emergency care for hospitals in Clearwater, Nakusp, Lillooet, and Princeton. Health Minister Josie Osborne endorses this forward-looking approach to bolster rural king services.
The project will see doctors Dr. Jennifer Bell, Dr. Michael Chen, Dr. Sarah Patel, and Dr. David White leading virtual emergency care in the respective towns. Interior Health is collaborating with these professionals and staff to understand and develop the project. The program aims to allow doctors to share responsibilities, combining virtual and on-site staffing to ensure continuous emergency care.
Many British Columbia emergency rooms have grappled with repeated temporary closures due to staffing shortages. This innovative solution seeks to address these challenges and strengthen rural health insurance services.
