Investigations into Compulsory Prostitution and Slavery of Human Beings
In a significant development, investigators from the Berlin State Criminal Police Office, EUROPOL, and the Public Prosecutor's Office Berlin executed search warrants at 16 locations in Berlin and Brandenburg yesterday morning. The joint operation was in response to an investigation into suspects accused of using a dating platform for the recruitment and continuation of prostitution of several women.
The joint statement was issued by EUROPOL, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Berlin Police. The Federal Police of Brazil, through cooperation and collaboration with Europol, also supported the operation. The Analysis Project Phoenix of Europol provided valuable assistance, offering information matching, cooperation with Brazilian police, analytical support, and on-site technical support for the forensic seizure of mobile phones.
A 41-year-old suspect was arrested in Schöneberg during the operation. Seven suspects in total were identified in the investigation, with ages ranging between 22 and 48. The suspects are alleged to have placed ads, coordinated appointments, and rented apartments for this purpose.
The searches resulted in the seizure of a five-figure sum of cash, a switchblade, two brass knuckles, various electronic data carriers, and a cryptocurrency wallet. The judge issued a warrant for the arrested suspect at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The arrested suspect was presented to an investigating judge at the Tiergarten District Court, and the warrant was immediately enforced.
The locations searched include 15 locations in Berlin and one location in Brandenburg. The investigation is being conducted on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office Berlin, with the investigations, including the analysis of electronic data carriers, continuing.
This operation marks a significant step forward in combating online exploitation and human trafficking. The collaboration between international law enforcement agencies and local authorities demonstrates a commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all individuals. The investigation remains ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
