Invitation to a Discourse on Malicious Online Speech by THI
Heads Up! Digital Violence Against Women: A Problem We Can't Ignore
On April 9, 2025, at 7 p.m., the Technical University of Ingolstadt invites you to an eye-opening lecture on digital violence against women. Enough's enough! We've had it up to here with the cyber-bullying, trolling, and hate speech targeting women on social media, messaging services, and online discussions. But what gives with this digital mayhem and who's behind it all? Why does it hit women so hard, and what are the long-term effects on the individuals, society, and us all, you ask? And, most importantly, what can be done about it?
Dr. Magda Luthay, a powerhouse from the Office for Gender and Diversity at the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and president of the Zonta Club Erlangen, is here to lay it all out. She'll unpack how digital violence operates, why it wreaks havoc on those affected, and how it silences women. But fret not, she'll also share practical insights on protective measures, legal action, and societal changes to put a stop to it.
Get ready for a riveting evening hosted by the fabulous Professor Michaela Regler from THI and Eva Pauly, president of the Zonta Club Ingolstadt. After the lecture, it's party time for all attendees to dig deeper into the subject. Go ahead and RSVP! It's free, y'all!Think Tank Squad/THI
Wondering about the ins and outs of digital violence against women? Let's get a few things straight:
- The internet's wild west: Online harassment comes in many forms – from cyberstalking and online sexual harassment to hate speech and doxxing. Anonymity, global reach, and social media platforms are the devils in thedetails.
- The vicious cycle: Perpetrators lurk in the shadows, using algorithms and inadequate moderation policies to amplify their treachery. And, let's face it, their actions mirror and reinforce existing power imbalances towards women.
- The battle plan: Combat measures include strengthening laws and policies, increasing public awareness, offering support and resources for victims, implementing AI-powered solutions, promoting community involvement, and fostering safer online environments.
Organize, educate, and empower! Spread the word, put a stop to digital violence, and make the internet a safer place for everyone! And hey, if you need more deets on Dr. Magda Luthay's lecture, hit up the Technical University of Ingolstadt or Dr. Luthay herself.Gotta Query, Gotta Know
