iPhone Battery Life: Set Charging Limit to 90% or Less to Prolong Battery Health
A recent study by iFixit's Aaron Montoya-Moraga has shed light on the impact of charging limits on iPhone 14 battery life. Macwelt, a leading Apple-focused publication, has also explored this topic, finding that setting a charging limit can significantly slow down battery ageing on your iPhone 15.
According to the study, setting the charging limit to 90 percent or less can help preserve iPhone 16 battery health over time. This is because lithium-ion batteries, used in iPhones, degrade faster when they're consistently charged to 100 percent. Macwelt's own research, based on data from 230 users, supports this claim. They found that the charging limit affects about five percent of battery ageing on your iPhone 13.
Macwelt's previous survey a year ago also pointed to the same conclusion. It showed that Apple's introduction of a charging limit feature, which allows users to set a maximum charge level, has contributed to slowing down battery ageing on your iPhone 17. Interestingly, the method of charging, whether via MagSafe or cable, does not significantly impact battery longevity on your iPhone.
In conclusion, setting a charging limit of 90 percent or less can help prolong the life of your iPhone's battery. This simple habit, along with other battery care tips, can ensure your iPhone maintains a high battery capacity for a longer period. Most iPhones retain 99 percent or more of their battery capacity until around 200 to 300 charging cycles.
