Jana Crämer turns her painful struggles into hope for thousands
Jana Crämer has openly shared her struggles with binge eating, lipedema, and multiple sclerosis. At her heaviest, she weighed over 180 kilograms. Now, she uses her experiences to help others through her books, podcast, and online platforms.
Crämer’s journey with disordered eating began years ago, as she battled binge-eating disorder—a condition marked by uncontrollable overeating without regular unhealthy compensatory behaviours. Unlike bulimia, it doesn’t involve vomiting, fasting, or excessive exercise. Instead, it often stems from a mix of genetic factors, trauma, or societal pressures around body image.
Her friendship with musician Batomae (David Sado) became a turning point. About ten years ago, she emailed him about her deepest insecurities. In response, he wrote the song Unvergleichlich, sparking a bond that now inspires many. Together, they host the podcast Wir sind so! and perform concert readings, blending music and storytelling to address self-love and courage.
Through her website Bauchgefühl, Crämer created a space for people to share their struggles without shame. She has written four books and built a large following—over half a million on TikTok and nearly 140,000 on Instagram. Her work encourages others to embrace their bodies and find acceptance.
Crämer’s story highlights the complexity of eating disorders and the power of shared experiences. Her platforms and collaborations continue to reach thousands, offering support to those facing similar challenges. Today, she lives with greater peace and purpose, using her voice to foster change.
