Journalist Jo Failer opens up about life with early-onset Alzheimer’s in new book
German journalist Jo Failer will present his new book, I Won’t Forget: A Living Legacy, on 5 May 2026. The event takes place at Fürth’s adult education centre, where Failer will share his experiences of living with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Tickets are available now, both online and at the door on the evening itself.
Failer, born in 1972, worked for years as an editor at Schwäbische Zeitung and as a journalist for Sat.1’s ran sports programme. His career took an unexpected turn when he received an Alzheimer's diagnosis at just 51. A father of two young children, he remained professionally active while facing the challenges of the disease.
His book offers an unfiltered look at life with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Rather than focusing only on loss, it highlights the moments of joy still possible despite the condition. The aim is to make the realities of Alzheimer's disease more visible to the public. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the bistro of the Volkshochschule, located at Hirschenstraße 27/29. Attendees can secure tickets in advance through the centre’s website or purchase them on arrival.
Failer’s book and talk provide a rare first-hand account of early-onset Alzheimer's disease. The event in Fürth gives the public a chance to hear his story directly. Organisers expect discussions about memory, resilience, and the everyday impact of Alzheimer's disease.
