Kazakhstan's Receipts Reveal Shift in Consumer Preferences
Kazakhstan's shopping receipts reveal a shift in consumer preferences, with confectionery leading the pack but showing a slight decline in reach. Meanwhile, dairy products are gaining traction, with a notable increase in their appearance in receipts.
Confectionery remains the top product category, accounting for 15.7% of the total amount in average receipts over the past two years. However, its reach has decreased, now standing at 33% in frequency of appearance in receipts. Drinks, including juices, sodas, and mineral water, follow closely with a 10.4% share and a 43% frequency of appearance.
Meat products and dairy products are also popular, with shares of 10.3% and 8.8% respectively. Notably, meat consumption is increasing, contributing to a more 'nutritious' Kazakh product basket. Dairy products are also on the rise, appearing in receipts 30% of the time, closing the gap with confectionery. Bakery products and fruits have seen a slight decrease in their appearance, from 23% to 20% and 10.6% to 9.4% respectively.
The Kazakh product basket is evolving, with a trend towards healthier eating. While confectionery and drinks remain popular, their reach is reducing. Conversely, dairy products are appearing more frequently in receipts, indicating a shift in consumer preferences.
