Kostanay schools switch to online classes as child respiratory cases surge

The Kostanay region in Kazakhstan is seeing a rise in respiratory illnesses, with schools taking steps to slow the spread. Over the past week, 5,545 cases of ARVI were recorded, marking a slight increase from the previous week. Some schools have already shifted to online classes as children make up more than half of the cases.

Since the flu season began, the region has reported 29,225 ARVI cases. The current incidence rate stands at 3,516.8 per 100,000 people. Children under 14 account for 58.6% of all infections.

The rise in ARVI cases has led to stricter measures in Kostanay’s schools. Remote learning is now active in some areas, while others enforce mask-wearing and classroom restrictions. Official updates on further steps can be found through the Kostanay Regional Department of Health.
