Landshut Hosts 'Action Days' to Reduce Mental Illness Stigma

Landshut is set to host a week-long event, 'Landshut Action Days', from October 13 to 16. The initiative, led by the Regional Steering Consortium Landshut, aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. The week will feature keynote speeches, film screenings, and a theater performance.

The event kicks off on October 13 at 5:30 PM with a ceremonial act and keynote speech at Kinopolis Landshut. Dr. Kathrin Dornes, Dr. Olaf Heinrich, Fritz Wittmann, and Hans-Peter Summer will deliver opening remarks. The week will then proceed with a series of film screenings and discussions.

On October 14, 'The Son' will be shown, exploring the relationship between a father and his depressed teenage son. The following day, 'The Rausch' will depict an alcohol experiment and its consequences. The week will conclude on October 16 with a theater performance of 'All That Beauty' at the Salzstadel Landshut.

The week of action is part of a broader effort to reduce the taboo surrounding mental health. Bavaria is actively pursuing psychiatric reform goals through Bavarian Psychiatry Plans and regional working groups. According to the latest Bavarian Psychiatry Report, around a quarter of Bavarians suffer from a mental health issue. The Psychiatry Enquiry, completed in 1975, initiated this reform process in Germany.

The Landshut Action Days will wrap up on October 16, leaving behind a week of awareness, discussion, and understanding. The event organizers hope that these initiatives will help to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage more people to seek help when they need it.
