The North Frisian island of Amrum is set to receive a significant boost in medical care with the construction of a new health center, which is expected to bring breaking news to the island's residents and visitors. The state secretary for rural areas, Anne Bennet-Sturies, has hailed the funding for the project as a win for medical care on Amrum and an enhancement to the island's attractiveness. The state of Schleswig-Holstein is providing 600,000 euros for the construction of the municipal health center in Wittdün on Amrum, which is being built by the municipality of Wittdün and is scheduled to be ready for the MVZ Amrum gGmbH to move into early in 2027. The new health center is expected to bring news to the island's medical care landscape, providing basic medical care for approximately 2,300 residents of Amrum and about 145,000 annual tourists. The new health center building will include six apartments, without additional funding. The recruitment of seasonal doctors has reportedly been hindered by a lack of accommodation on Amrum, and the new health center is expected to help alleviate this issue. The MVZ Amrum gGmbH will become the tenant of the new health center building, providing much-needed medical care to the island's residents and visitors. The MVZ is currently housed in the old practice premises, but the move to the new health center building will mark a significant step forward in the provision of medical care on Amrum. The funding for the health center is seen as a positive development for medical care on the island, following the closure of one of the two general practitioner practices on the island at the end of June. The remaining general practitioner had already announced their intention to give up their independence two years ago, and the team from the closed practice, including the doctors, is now employed by the MVZ. The new health center is intended to secure long-term medical care on the North Frisian island of Amrum, ensuring that residents and visitors have access to essential medical services for years to come.
