We're thrilled to announce the launch of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Global Bioethics Mentorship Program – a two-year pilot initiative connecting our top minds with emerging bioethicists worldwide. Kick-starting in early 2025, this program is funded by the SNF as part of the Global Health Initiative (GHI) 🌐
"Bioethical debates span the globe, but access to resources, guidance, and networks can be limited in certain regions. It's crucial to cultivate careers in bioethics where the field is less established. Mentorship, when done right, can make all the difference," shares our President, Vardit Ravitsky 💬
Our illustrious Fellows, numbering over 300, have proven records, shedding light on complex ethical dilemmas in health, science, and technology. They'll mentor promising bioethicists from low-resource regions, with a selection committee of Fellows overseeing the process 🏆✨
To ensure our mentors enhance their roles with cultural sensitivity and learn from their mentees, Hastings research scholars and experienced mentors will provide tailored mentorship training 🎓🎓
"Being an academic powerhouse doesn't automatically equate to stellar mentorship skills. One size does not fit all. We must adapt and cater to the needs and realities of our mentees," emphasizes Ravitsky 🤝
The ultimate goal? Refine this customized mentorship training into a "gold standard" widely adopted in the bioethics community, addressing a critical global gap 🌐✨
Every year, mentor-mentee pairs will collaborate on year-long projects, like grant proposals, academic articles, podcasts or innovative initiatives. They'll present their achievements annually for all to see 📦💪
The SNF Global Bioethics Program will leverage our platforms and respected reputation to elevate bioethics, both internationally and domestically 🌐
