Lightning’s Hockey Talks Night unites fans and stars for mental health advocacy
The Tampa Bay Lightning hosted their annual Hockey Talks Night to shine a light on mental health awareness. Fans and players came together to support the cause, with special initiatives led by Lightning captain Victor Hedman and NOSOLO founder John Toracinta. The event included donations, fan engagement, and limited-edition merchandise to benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
Hedman, a long-time advocate for mental health in the Tampa Bay area, teamed up with Toracinta for this year’s event. The two donated exclusive Hockey Talks gear, with proceeds going to NAMI. Fans also took part by writing encouraging messages on Hockey Talks Cards, promoting mental health awareness and support.
During the game, special edition NOSOLO hats were handed out to fans needing a boost. The brand, which includes Hedman among its ambassador athletes—alongside former Lightning player Nate Thompson and NFL quarterback Jared Goff—donates a portion of its sales to NAMI. After the match, Hedman met with Toracinta and NAMI representatives through the organisation’s player ticket programme. NOSOLO’s mission focuses on reaching wider audiences, as one in five people face mental health challenges. The partnership with the Lightning aimed to amplify this message through sports and community engagement.
The event brought together athletes, fans, and mental health advocates to raise awareness and funds. Through gear donations, fan participation, and NOSOLO’s ongoing contributions, the Lightning’s Hockey Talks Night reinforced support for NAMI’s work. The collaboration between Hedman and Toracinta highlighted the importance of mental health in both sports and the wider community.
