Lili Reinhart's Toxic Stream exposes the dark cost of content moderation

"Toxic Stream" follows Daisy (Lili Reinhart), a content moderator who spends her days reviewing violent videos before they go viral. Her job is far from easy—long hours in front of a screen, exposed to disturbing material that gradually unravels her emotional stability.

Everything changes when she stumbles upon a video that doesn't appear to be a simulation but a real crime. No one reacts—not her bosses, not the police. From that moment on, she becomes consumed by an obsessive investigation, one in which violence draws ever closer.

While the film avoids explicitly depicting the horrors that unfold on screen, it does expose the damaging toll the internet takes on mental health. Too often, online platforms become spaces where anonymity fuels bullying and violence.

Director Uta Briesewitz is best known for her work on Stranger Things and The Wheel of Time. The cast includes Lili Reinhart, Daniela Melchior, Jeremy Ang Jones, Josh Whitehouse, Joel Fry, and Christiane Paul.
