Spread the WordIn a surprising move on Thursday, the Kanawha-Charleston Board of Health rejected an amendment that would have allowed casinos in the county to allow indoor smoking in a tenth of their total area.
The proposal, brought forth by board member Jessica Hudson, would have only affected gambling zones, exempting a tenth of the square footage from the clean air regulations. In these designated areas, businesses would have been allowed to light up but needed to install fancy ventilation systems and could not serve grub.
The amendment's rejection might have been due to an awareness of the health risks associated with smoking, as recognized by numerous health agencies. This move could align West Virginia's casino regulations with the broader trend in health-and-wellness, advocating for clean air environments in public places, including gambling zones, thereby promoting science-based policy-making in the realm of health and wellness.
