Loop Unveils First Workforce Health Index: India's Professionals 'Running on Borrowed Health'

Loop, India's leading group health insurance provider, has unveiled the Workforce Health Index (WHI), the nation's first comprehensive report on the health of urban professionals. The report, based on extensive lab tests and surveys, reveals alarming health risks threatening India's workforce productivity.

The WHI, launched by Mayank Kale, Co-founder & CEO of Loop, highlights that India's workforce is 'running on borrowed health'. The report analysed 214,142 lab test parameters and lifestyle surveys from 3,437 professionals across major cities, providing insights into both biological and lifestyle health.

Harpreet Singh, President, Healthcare, Loop, noted that health risks are not just a result of personal choices but also systemic and workplace drivers. The report shows that 36.5% of female professionals are clinically anemic, a staggering 4.5 times more than men (8.2%). Additionally, 27.3% of professionals sleep less than 6 hours nightly, and 33.9% report high stress levels, with women reporting 17% higher stress levels.

Region-specific health issues were also identified. Delhi NCR shows 34.8% liver dysfunction, while over 82% of Mumbai have HDL cholesterol below the protective level of 50 mg/dL. Furthermore, 37.2% of professionals show abnormal glucose metabolism, indicating early signals of diabetes risk in their prime career years.

The WHI is designed as a decision-making tool for CFOs, CHROs, and policymakers to shape benefits, workplace design, and preventive health strategies. It underscores the urgent need to address these health risks to ensure long-term productivity and well-being of India's workforce.
