Lörrach's Volunteer-Led Health Initiative Wins State Prevention Award
More Movement, Less Loneliness: A Health Initiative from Lörrach District Wins Statewide Recognition
A health project from the district of Lörrach has now been honored at the state level. On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the project team behind "Active Home Visits" received Baden-Württemberg's Prevention Award in Stuttgart. According to the Lörrach district administration, Social Affairs Minister Manne Lucha presented the award, which includes a €5,000 prize.
The initiative primarily targets older adults. Volunteer "movement mentors" regularly visit participants in their homes, guiding them through simple physical and mental exercises. The goal is to improve mobility, preserve independence, and combat loneliness.
Since 2019, the program has been run by the Church Social Services of Southern Markgräflerland and has since expanded across the entire district. Currently, around 60 volunteers are involved. The district reports that the concept was developed in collaboration with partners in healthcare and elder care.
The jury was particularly impressed by the project's holistic approach, which promotes both physical and mental activity. Looking ahead, sustainable funding is planned, with €22,000 allocated annually in the budget.
