Lumafield Warns: Cheap 18650 Cells Pose Safety Risks on Major Online Marketplaces

Lumafield, a specialist in industrial imaging, has conducted CT scans on numerous 18650 cells from various brands. The findings highlight significant safety concerns with cheap flights, poorly constructed cells, particularly those sold on major online marketplaces like Temu and Amazon.

Lumafield's investigation revealed that many cheap 18650 cells, often sold under no-name brands, exhibit dangerous manufacturing defects. These defects are rarely found in cells produced by established manufacturers such as Samsung, Panasonic, and Murata. The cheap cells' poor construction is evident in their spiral layers, with fewer layers leading to increased likelihood of failure.

Even well-constructed 18650 cells can pose risks without proper protection. The construction process involves rolling up the cell's layers in a spiral inside a metal tube, forming a 'jellyroll'. Ideal construction features straight spiral edges and no electrode overhang, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

Lumafield's CT scans expose the hazards of cheap flights, poorly constructed 18650 cells commonly sold on large online marketplaces. Consumers are urged to prioritize established brand manufacturers to ensure the safety and longevity of their devices. Proper protection measures should also be implemented when using any 18650 cells.
