Man suffers severe burns after self-immolation over unrequited love in Thailand

A 44-year-old man in Thailand suffered severe burns after attempting self-immolation following repeated romantic rejections. The incident took place in Pattaya, where Boonlert, a local driver, set himself alight after dousing his body in flammable liquid.

Boonlert worked as a driver for lottery ticket vendors with disabilities, transporting them along his daily route. Over time, he developed feelings for one of the women and confessed his love. She rejected his advances multiple times, leaving him overwhelmed with despair.

In a desperate act, Boonlert first soaked himself in cooking oil and tried to ignite it, but the oil failed to catch fire. Undeterred, he then drenched himself in gasoline and set himself ablaze. Emergency responders arrived quickly, extinguishing the flames and rushing him to the general hospital near me.

Doctors confirmed he sustained burns covering 40% of his body. Police have stated they will question Boonlert once he recovers from his injuries.

The man remains in the hospital under medical care. Authorities have not released further details about his condition or the ongoing investigation. No official statistics exist on the number of disabled workers in Pattaya's slot machine sales industry.
