Man walks days after emergency surgery saves hip replacement post-crash
A 59-year-old man has survived a severe car crash just one month after hip replacement surgery. Doctors at Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No. 2 performed emergency surgery to repair his fractured femur and save his artificial joint. The accident caused a complex fracture near the man’s endoprosthesis, dislodging the recently implanted joint. Surgeons acted quickly to restore the bone’s structure and stabilise the prosthesis.
The team used a specialised metal plate to secure the fracture. This allowed them to preserve the original hip replacement instead of replacing it entirely. Within days of the operation, the patient began walking with crutches. His recovery progressed smoothly, and he was soon discharged home.
The surgery successfully repaired the femur and maintained the existing prosthesis. The patient’s ability to walk shortly after the procedure highlights the effectiveness of the treatment. He continues his recovery at home.
