Mandatory enforcement initiated: School backpacks now subject to GOST regulation
Russia has introduced a new standard for school backpacks, effective from August 1st, with the aim of protecting schoolchildren's health and ensuring their safety. The new regulations focus on limiting carrying weight and encouraging the use of reflective elements.
According to the new standard, the recommended maximum weight for a school backpack should not exceed 10-15% of a child's body weight. This means that lower grade students' backpacks should not weigh more than 700 grams (excluding labels and additional components), while upper grade students' backpacks should not exceed 1 kilogram.
In addition to weight limits, the new standard emphasizes the importance of reflective materials on backpacks and school bags to increase visibility and safety, especially during dark or foggy weather. All school backpacks must have reflective elements to comply with the new regulations.
The new standard also requires school backpacks to be durable, non-flammable, and colorfast. This ensures that the backpacks are long-lasting, safe, and resistant to fading or discoloration.
It is important to note that while some regions or schools may enforce these standards formally, there is no uniform nationwide regulatory document strictly imposing exact backpack weight limits or mandatory reflective elements for all schools.
