Man’s 31-Day Freezing Water Challenge Raises Mental Health Awareness

Juan Callister has started a month-long cold water challenge to promote mental health awareness. Beginning on New Year’s Day, he plans to spend more time in icy water each day, aiming for 31 minutes by January 31. His challenge, a cold water exposure ladder, involves increasing his time in freezing conditions daily. On January 1, he began with one minute in the water, planning to reach 31 minutes by the end of the month. His dips have taken place in rivers, cold tubs, and the sea, including rough open water stretches. The physical test is part of a bigger mission: encouraging conversations about mental health awareness. Callister is raising money for Isle Stand Up to Suicide and other mental health organizations. He hopes his challenge will highlight the support available for those struggling with their mental health and help break the stigma around men discussing their mental well-being. The challenge runs throughout January, with each day bringing a longer exposure to cold water. Funds raised will go directly to mental health organizations. Callister’s effort aims to spark discussions and provide help for those in need of mental health support.
