Meet Carlota: 19-Year-Old Para-Olympic Swimmer Inspires with Remarkable Journey
Meet Carlota, a remarkable 19-year-old who is making waves as a para-Olympic swimmer and student at Kuepa University. Born prematurely with cerebral palsy and spastic hemiparesis, Carlota has defied odds and is now set to inspire the world as an International Patient Ambassador for Shriner's Children's Hospital.
Carlota's journey began at just 4 years old when she started receiving care at Shriner's Children's Mexico. She underwent six surgeries and years of physical and occupational therapy to correct a nearly five-inch leg length difference. This transformative care allowed Carlota to run for the first time at the age of 5.
Now, Carlota dreams big. Her next sporting ambition is to compete in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, with hopes to also participate in the 2028 games in Los Angeles. As an International Patient Ambassador, she will attend prestigious events like the Rose Parade in Pasadena and the East-West Shrine Bowl in Arlington, representing Shriner's Children's Hospital in the United States and Canada.
Carlota's resilience and determination have not only led her to become a para-Olympic swimmer but also an inspiration to many. As one of two International Patient Ambassadors for Hispanic Heritage Month, she continues to break barriers and prove that with the right care and support, anything is possible.
