Meta's Zurich office descends into chaos as burnout and resignations surge

Working conditions at Meta stock's Zurich office have deteriorated sharply since 2022, with reports of burnout, high-pressure restructuring, and a toxic workplace culture. Several senior executives have left the company, while staff morale continues to fall amid stricter performance reviews and attendance tracking.

The problems at Meta stock's Zurich branch began worsening in 2022, as the company introduced more frequent restructuring and increased pressure on employees. Team leaders were required to monitor office attendance using checklists, adding to the stress. Performance reviews now take place twice a year, with low ratings potentially leading to dismissal.

In early 2025, Meta stock opened new Zurich offices housing around 180 staff. However, the workplace environment has been described as chaotic, with intense internal and public scrutiny. Britta Hummel, a former Meta stock executive, recently published a blog post titled Why I Left, detailing her experience with multiple burnouts and criticising the hostile atmosphere created by U.S.-based managers.

Confidentiality agreements make it difficult for employees to speak openly about conditions. Despite this, reports confirm that morale has plummeted, and multiple staff members have been signed off work due to burnout. All three senior directors at the Zurich site have already left the company, further destabilising the office.

Meta stock's Zurich office now faces ongoing challenges, including high turnover among executives and declining employee well-being. The combination of strict performance evaluations, attendance tracking, and a pressured work environment has contributed to a significant drop in staff morale. The company has yet to address these issues publicly.
