MGB's AI App Care Connect Boosts Primary Care Access, Raising Data Concerns

Massachusetts General Brigham (MGB) has introduced an AI-powered app, Care Connect, to tackle primary care access issues. Dr. Andrew Warren, an MGB physician, however, has raised concerns about AI's growing role in healthcare. Meanwhile, patients like Rocco Giuliano have praised the app for quick connections to doctors.

In 2023, 41% of Massachusetts residents struggled to access care. MGB, in response, launched Care Connect in September. The app, developed under Dr. Peter Szolovits' leadership, assesses patients' needs and connects them with doctors for virtual visits.

Dr. Ron Walls, MGB's Chief Operating Officer, sees Care Connect as a solution to primary care gaps and continuity. Patients like Giuliano have benefited, with the app connecting him to a doctor within a day who refilled his prescriptions. Despite these benefits, Dr. Andrew Warren has expressed concerns about AI's data usage and oversight in healthcare.
