Most Beneficial Foods for COVID-19 Recoverers: Dietitians' Advice

Health experts have shared key dietary and lifestyle tips for those recovering from COVID-19. Dietitian Preety Tyagi and Dr. Rohini Patil recommend specific foods, hydration, and rest to help the body regain strength. Their advice focuses on rebuilding immunity and easing the recovery process.

Tyagi suggests increasing complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains, to restore energy levels. She also advises starting the day with walnuts, almonds, or pumpkin seeds, as these contain omega-3 fatty acids and essential minerals like zinc and selenium. These nutrients help repair a weakened body after illness.

For gut health, Tyagi recommends yogurt, kombucha, pickles, and beans. These foods support the gut microbiota, which plays a role in immune function. Earlier, dietitian Andrei Knyazkov had highlighted bell peppers as another useful addition to a post-COVID diet.

Hydration is another priority. Dr. Patil advises drinking water infused with chia seeds and basil to maintain fluid balance. Both experts stress the importance of drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.

Rest remains crucial. Dr. Patil urges at least eight to nine hours of sleep each night to allow the immune system to recover. Tyagi adds that avoiding excessive physical and mental strain can speed up healing.

The guidance avoids spicy foods like peperoni, as they may irritate the stomach lining, particularly for those with conditions like Helicobacter pylori infections. Instead, the focus is on nutrient-rich foods, proper hydration, and adequate rest. These steps aim to help COVID-19 recoverers regain their strength more effectively.
