Mumbai teen dies by suicide after falling for a cruel online money scam

A 17-year-old college student from Mumbai died by suicide after falling victim to an online task scam. Vignesh Chougule, a first-year student, was found dead at Jogeshwari railway station on January 21. Police suspect the fraudsters behind the scheme pressured him relentlessly over lost cash, driving him to extreme distress.

Vignesh was lured into the scam through WhatsApp, where he was offered part-time work for Google rating tasks. After completing initial assignments, he was convinced to pay Rs49,000 for so-called advanced tasks—but received nothing in return.

The case highlights the dangers of online task scams, which often target vulnerable individuals with false promises of easy money. Police continue their search for the fraudsters, while Vignesh’s family and authorities urge caution against similar schemes.
