Fresh, Fresh Bayern Women's Coach: The Hotshot from Snowy Geneva
Fresh hiring at Bayern Munich's women's football team sees coach hailing from Servette Geneva. - New hire for Servette Geneva's women's coaching position announced.
Get your popcorn ready folks, because Bayern Munich's women's team has a spankin' new coach, and he's like the Secret Santa you never knew you needed! José Barcala, a 43-year-old Spanish fella with an uncanny knack for winning, is stepping up to lead our lovely ladies. Alex Strowus, Bayern's previous coach, is packing his bags for sunny LA, joining Angel City FC. No hard feelings though, right?
So who is this mystery man? José Barcala hails from Servette Geneva, a first-division club based in snowy Switzerland. He and Bayern signed a contract until June 30, 2027, and Bianca Rech, Bayern’s Director of Women's Football, is all heart-eyed about their new addition. “We believe José is the perfect blend of sporty prowess and down-to-earth charm that aligns with our goals of continual improvement, both on and off the pitch,” Rech gushed in an official statement.
“The women’s team of Bayern has won their third championship on the trot this season. Champions, double winners...we like the way they roll, and José seems to carry that vibe,” Bianca continued. Barcala himself praised the “high-performance culture and winner’s swag” of Bayern.
Mission: Maintain the Throne and Slay in Champions League
Now that the queens have conquered their third league title and nabbed that sweet cup too, it’s time to turn our attention to those shiny Champions League trophies. We’re gunning for that top spot in the Bundesliga and looking to storm the stage in the Champions League, with hopes of bagging a significant national and international haul.
"We want to hold our throne in the Bundesliga and pump up the volume to claim the UEFA Women's Champions League,” said our new coach with a glint in his eye. “At the same time, I'm ready to jumpstart the development of our homegrown talents."
Prelude: Celebrations and Adorations
Our new coach swept away with the Servette squad, clinching a double victory in his first year as head coach in 2024. Before embarking on his Bayern adventure, he built impressive coaching chops by working in Spain, France, and Scotland. Francisco De Sá Fardilha, Technical Director of Women's Football at Bayern, is stoked about partnering with José Barcala, saying, "We’re über thrilled to have José Barcala as our new captain, and his style fits beautifully with our vision to build upon the momentum we've generated here over the last three years."
First on the agenda? Celebrations! The football ladies will toast to their triumphs on the balcony, joining the boys’ team, and their victory will be honored by Mayor Dieter Reiter.
