New Student Protection Policy to combat bullying and mental health risks in schools
The Education Ministry has announced plans to finalise a new Student Protection Policy by next week. All relevant parties will be required to sign the agreement, which focuses on safeguarding pupils from bullying, harassment, and mental health risks. The move comes alongside ongoing reviews of examination policies and school-based assessments.
The upcoming policy aims to shield students from a range of threats, including sexual assault, bullying, and psychological distress. Officials have confirmed that signatures from all involved groups must be collected within the next seven days.
Separately, the ministry is examining whether to reintroduce public exams like UPSR or PT3. A report on the findings will soon be presented to the Cabinet for further discussion. In addition to these measures, the government remains committed to refining the current school-based assessment system. No specific minister has been named in connection with the policy’s signing, though several regional education leaders have been involved in related initiatives.
The Student Protection Policy will take effect once all parties have formally agreed. The ministry’s review of examination reforms and assessment improvements will continue in parallel. Further updates are expected after the Cabinet receives the findings.
