New Study Reveals How Depression and Anxiety Raise Heart Disease Risk

A new study has uncovered a troubling link between mental health and heart disease. Researchers found that people with depression or anxiety face a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure. The findings suggest that stress-related brain activity, inflammation, and nervous system issues may play a key role in this connection.

The study, led by Dr. Pradeep Natarajan, analysed observational data from individuals with depression or anxiety. Results showed that even after adjusting for lifestyle factors and traditional risks, these conditions remained tied to a greater likelihood of cardiovascular problems. Those suffering from both depression and anxiety were at an even higher risk than those with just one condition.

The findings point to a strong relationship between mental health and heart disease risk. Stress-related brain activity, chronic inflammation, and nervous system dysfunction appear to contribute to this connection. Further research will determine if targeted treatments can reduce future heart problems in people with depression or anxiety.
