Bobbie Sue Chavez, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away at the age of 91 in June 2025. Born on July 23, 1933, in Town Creek, Alabama, Chavez moved to Albuquerque in May 1954 and remained there until her passing.
Although extensive public records do not document specific professional or public achievements attributed to Chavez, her legacy in the Albuquerque community appears to be tied primarily to her longstanding presence and her active involvement in various local organizations.
Chavez was a dedicated volunteer, giving her time and energy to numerous charities and community initiatives. She was actively involved with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the Department of Senior Affairs, Anna Kaseman Hospital, Popejoy Hall, the PNM weatherization Program, Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital, United Blood Services, March of Dimes, Run for the Zoo, Duke City Marathon, American Cancer Society, and United Way.
In addition to her community service, Chavez was a devout member of the Monterey Baptist Church in Albuquerque. She was particularly active with the church's Young at Heart Choir, which she supported both financially and through her time and effort.
Chavez retired from PNM after 26 years of service in 1999. She is survived by her daughter Beverly and her husband Joseph Rudys, sons Robert Chavez and his wife Teresa Chavez, grandsons Luke E. Rudys and Matthew Z. Rudys, granddaughters Afton and husband Trevor Cobb, Jocelyn Chavez, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Chavez's family asks that donations be made to the Young at Heart Choir (YAH). A memorial service for Bobbie Sue Chavez will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Monterey Baptist Church, Albuquerque, NM. Cremation has already taken place.
