Nizhny Novgorod University launches pioneering psychotherapist training in 2023
Nizhny Novgorod State University is set to introduce its first psychotherapist training program this autumn. The new course, launching in September 2023, will be based at the Institute of Clinical Medicine. It marks a significant expansion in mental health education for the region.
The program will combine theoretical study with practical experience. Classes will be led by working psychologists, psychotherapists, and specialists in Gestalt therapy. This ensures students learn directly from professionals active in the field.
Training will not be limited to the classroom. Residents will gain hands-on experience at Nizhny Novgorod Regional Psychoneurological Hospital No. 3, along with other medical centres across the city. This approach aims to provide real-world exposure from the start. The curriculum has been designed to link closely with psychiatry and addiction medicine. By integrating these disciplines, the university hopes to create a more comprehensive training model for future psychotherapists.
The new program begins in September 2023, offering structured training in psychotherapy. Students will work alongside experienced practitioners and receive clinical placements in local hospitals. Official figures on annual training numbers or recent trends in psychotherapy education remain unavailable.
