Noah Dettwiler heads home to Switzerland after near-fatal Moto3 crash

Noah Dettwiler, the Moto3 racer, is set to return home after a serious crash in Malaysia. The Swiss rider suffered severe injuries, including an open leg fracture, lung contusions, and a neck injury. He has been cleared to travel back to Switzerland.

Dettwiler's journey home began with his evacuation from the racetrack by Rega, the Swiss air-rescue service. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, where he underwent emergency surgery for his open leg fracture. Doctors also removed his spleen to stop severe internal bleeding and performed procedures to treat his lung contusions and neck injury.

Dettwiler's condition was critical initially. He suffered multiple cardiac arrests and had to be resuscitated. After regaining consciousness, he was moved out of the intensive care unit. His recovery will now continue in Switzerland, where he will undergo further surgery and a rehabilitation phase.

Dettwiler is scheduled to fly back home to Switzerland on Thursday, where he will continue his recovery. His return home is a significant step in his road to recovery after the serious crash during the Moto3 race in Malaysia.
