NSU Marks World Mental Health Day 2025 With Youth-Focused Events
North South University (NSU) in Dhaka marked World Mental Health Day 2025 with a series of insightful events. The university hosted a poster presentation and panel discussion, focusing on youth mental health awareness and the current state of mental health services in Bangladesh.
The day's proceedings began with a poster presentation exhibition, 'Access to Services - Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies', featuring student participation. This interactive session highlighted the challenges and solutions in mental health care during crises.
The panel discussion, moderated by Jashim Uddin, Professor and Director of the Center for Peace Studies (CPS) at NSU, delved into the mental health challenges faced by university students and the support they need. Experts shared insights into the neuro-chemical basis of mental health issues, with Professor Dr Abdul Khaleque providing a scientific perspective. Dr SM Saidur Rahman Mashreky explored the factors affecting mental health conditions, offering a holistic understanding of the topic.
Professor Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman, a distinguished speaker, discussed the current status and resource gaps in Bangladesh's mental health services. Dr Ishakul Kabir from the WHO country office in Bangladesh emphasized the global and local importance of youth mental health awareness and the persistent stigma surrounding it. Professor Dr Nazmul Hossain addressed the government's mental health policy and future plans for youth mental well-being.
NSU's commemoration of World Mental Health Day 2025 brought together experts and students to raise awareness and discuss crucial aspects of mental health. The event underscored the need for improved mental health services, reduced stigma, and increased support for youth mental well-being in Bangladesh.
