Oprah Winfrey reveals how Mounjaro changed her relationship with food forever

Oprah Winfrey has shared her experience with weight management using the medication Mounjaro. Since starting the treatment in 2023, she has described a significant shift in her mindset towards food and obesity. This time, she says, her approach feels different from past struggles with weight loss and gain.

Winfrey began using Mounjaro, a GLP-1 drug similar to Wegovy and Victoza, to manage her obesity. She had previously disclosed her use of semaglutide, sold under the brand Wegovy, in interviews and a 2024 WeightWatchers special. The medication has helped her reduce what she calls 'food noise'—the constant mental chatter about eating that often leads to unnecessary consumption and guilt.

She now views obesity as a disease rather than a personal failing. This realisation has removed much of the shame she once felt around food. After eating a croissant recently, she no longer experienced guilt, only the practical thought of cleaning up the crumbs.

The drug has also brought unexpected side effects. Winfrey reports a reduced desire for alcohol and an improved commitment to exercise. She has accepted that managing obesity requires medical support rather than willpower alone. For this reason, she plans to continue using the medication indefinitely.

Winfrey has not shared her current weight but emphasises the long-term impact of the treatment. By addressing obesity as a medical condition, she has found a more sustainable way to manage her health. She describes the change as liberating and plans to stay on the medication for life.
