Overflow at Guba Hospital Resolved

Guba Community Hospital's flooding woes, a hot topic two months back in Cebu City's council meetings, have finally been quelled, thanks to some timely action! That's what Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia said in a recent interview on May 5, 2025.

Ever the problem-solver, Garcia hopped on the phone with the appropriate folks—the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) and the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO)—to plan a fix. The solution? A nifty gutter system.

"With our engineering team's sharp moves, the flooding at the hospital is a thing of the past," Garcia beamed.

So, what was all the fuss about? Well, back in March, following complaints from the hospital head about excessive flooding and mold growth, the problem was linked to incomplete roofing on an expansion building and improper drainage.

But worry not, as Garcia mentioned during the same interview that the contractor is still committed to finishing the new building, possibly by the end of May.

Guba Community Hospital had a rocky start, opening doors on July 29, 2024, five years in the making. Originally scheduled to start operating in 2022, it faced numerous setbacks, putting its second-floor expansion on hold until November or December of the previous year. This was set to accommodate ten additional patients.

The hospital, currently licensed for 10 patients daily, has a team of 50 medical personnel, including six doctors, assisting its patients. In the near future, it will be rebranded as the North District Community Hospital, ultimately offering Level 1 hospital services, delivering initial clinical care and primary care for common diseases.
