They want safety for all children - Prince Harry and Meghan join forces to shield children from smartphone risks

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have stepped up efforts to protect children from the risks of smartphones and social media. Their work now includes collaboration with psychologist Jonathan Haidt, whose research highlights the dangers of a 'smartphone-based childhood'.

In 2021, the couple founded the Archewell Foundation, focusing on mental health, social justice, and community support. Through Archewell Philanthropies, they prioritise shielding young people from online harm, including addiction, sleep deprivation, and exposure to harmful content.

Harry and Meghan recently joined a discussion hosted by Oprah Daily with authors of The Anxious Generation, exploring how digital spaces affect mental health. They also praised parents advocating for stricter online protections after a 2024 U.S. Senate hearing on children’s safety. The couple described Haidt’s findings as 'incredibly valuable' for their work with families. Their initiatives now support parents dealing with grief or severe mental health struggles linked to online dangers.

The Sussexes continue to push for safer digital environments for children. Their partnership with experts like Haidt reinforces their commitment to addressing the mental health impacts of technology. Through Archewell, they provide resources and advocacy for families navigating these challenges.
