Pro-Life Group Slams FDA's Approval of Generic Abortion Pill

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, a nonprofit dedicated to ending abortion, has slammed the FDA's approval of the generic version of mifepristone, an abortion pill, as 'unconscionable'. The organization argues that the drug undermines states' rights and poses safety concerns.

Kelsey Pritchard, Political Communications Director for the organization, stated that generic drugs aren't required to have independent data on their safety and effectiveness. She claimed that mifepristone, originally fast-tracked under President Bill Clinton by classifying pregnancy as an illness, has alarming rates of complications like hemorrhage, infection, and need for surgery. The organization argues that abortion is the leading cause of death in the U.S., with over 1.1 million abortions a year, more than 60% caused by abortion drugs. HHS Communications Director Andrew Nixon confirmed that generic applicants are not required to submit independent evidence proving safety and effectiveness. Pritchard acknowledged that Secretary Kennedy and Commissioner Makary promised to review fresh data on mifepristone's dangers but noted that they could immediately reinstate safety standards from President Trump's first term.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America continues to advocate for stricter regulations on abortion drugs, citing safety concerns and a desire to protect states' rights. The FDA, however, maintains that mifepristone is safe and effective when used as directed.
