Proposal requested for a worker radiation safety directive, addressing potential hazards from ionising radiation exposure.

A 13-year-old patient at a youth psychiatry facility in Paderborn allegedly stabbed and critically injured a caretaker during a therapy session on August 16. The attack occurred in the kitchen after a guard briefly left the room.

Details indicate that the police had warned the hospital administration days before the attack about the potential danger of allowing the girl access to kitchen knives due to her reported extremist behavior and previous violent actions. However, it appears that these warnings were not heeded.

The caretaker, a 24-year-old, sustained life-threatening injuries and required emergency surgery to save their life. Following the incident, authorities launched a homicide investigation. The girl was initially placed in a closed psychiatric facility, but her age, which is below the age of criminal responsibility, affected the legal processing.

The motive for the attack remains under investigation. The LWL, the clinic's operator, has confirmed that violence against employees is rare in clinical daily life. They have also stated that they are offering comprehensive support to the injured employee and their family, as well as to the entire team and the patients.

In response to the incident, the LWL's hospital director, Emanuel Wiggerich, traveled to Paderborn to get a firsthand impression of the situation. He stated that an employee of the security service was present in the kitchen and was able to restrain the patient immediately after the incident.

The LWL is currently cooperating with the police and the public prosecutor’s office in Paderborn, and the investigation into the incident and the girl's potential Islamist threat status is ongoing. The incident is considered extraordinary for the clinic operator. After emergency surgery, the victim is now out of danger.
