Fifteen cases of attempted manslaughter, each linked to inflicting severe physical harm, have resulted in a custodial sentence.

Psychiatric facility released a disturbed individual armed with knives the day prior to the violent incident.

A suspect in a knife attack at Hamburg Central Station, which left 18 individuals injured, has been detained by authorities following the incident. As per a report by Bild, the 39-year-old woman, originally from Brunswick, had been recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital in Bremerhaven and was in psychiatric treatment until the day prior to the attack.

The attack unfolded on the evening of May 23, between tracks 13 and 14, where the woman reportedly targeted random victims with a knife. She was observed handling a knife on the south side of the station earlier that day. The police confirmed that no politically-motivated background was discernible, stating instead that the suspect may have been suffering from a mental illness.

A judge has ordered her detention on charges of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm in fifteen cases, as reported by the police. The investigation is currently focused on determining the attacker's motives and whether there were any prior warning signs or relevant criminal background.

Early media reports did not provide specific details about the woman's background or mental health history, with authorities still working to establish her motives and circumstances. Several injured victims have since been released from hospitals, though accurate numbers have not been provided by Mayor Peter Tschentscher. The health conditions of four critically injured individuals have since stabilized.

As per a spokesperson for the Lower Saxony Interior Ministry, the suspect is believed to be originally from Lower Saxony. The attack disrupted services at the station, with four tracks closed and train services delayed or rerouted. Authorities emphasized the ban on carrying weapons at the station and local transport in Hamburg.

The Enrichment Data suggests that investigations are ongoing to determine the attacker's psychiatric history. Police and security agencies are expected to provide further updates as their inquiries progress.
