Police Rescue Sleeping Man from Smoke-Filled Apartment - Quick-Thinking Neighbour Saves Man from Smoke-Filled Apartment

A quick-thinking resident in Garbsen's Berenbostel district saved a neighbour's life after a smoke alarm sounded in their multi-family building. The incident began when food left unattended on a stove filled an apartment with smoke, putting a sleeping man in serious danger.

The alarm first alerted a resident to smoke spreading through the hallway. After knocking and ringing at the apartment door with no reply, they called the police. Officers arrived to find the smell of smoke strong outside the locked flat.

Upon forcing the door open, police discovered a 44-year-old man asleep on the sofa, unaware of the danger. They woke him and pulled him from the smoke-filled room. Paramedics then took the man to hospital for suspected smoke inhalation.

Firefighters attended the scene to ventilate the building and clear the remaining smoke. The source was confirmed as burnt food left on the stove. Police later stated that the resident's swift action and the alarm likely prevented a far worse outcome.

The man received medical treatment for smoke inhalation after being rescued. Emergency services cleared the building, ensuring no further risk to other residents. Authorities emphasised the importance of working smoke alarms in preventing serious harm.
