Russia cracks down on banned dietary supplements in online markets
Russian authorities have stepped up efforts to block websites selling banned dietary supplements. The move comes as part of a wider push to reduce public health risks linked to unregulated products. Two key agencies are leading the crackdown: Rospotrebnadzor and Roskomnadzor.
Over 200 online platforms have already been restricted for advertising or distributing prohibited supplements. The agencies are working together to identify and shut down websites that violate regulations.
To avoid counterfeit or unsafe products, Rospotrebnadzor now advises consumers to buy supplements only from pharmacies or authorised suppliers. Official guidance states that all purchases should come with verified registration documents and meet Russian quality standards. Anyone with doubts about a product’s safety or legitimacy can report concerns. Local Rospotrebnadzor offices and the Unified Consultation Center hotline are available for public inquiries.
The restrictions target online sellers of unapproved supplements, aiming to limit access to potentially harmful items. Consumers are urged to check product credentials before buying and to rely on official retail channels. The agencies continue monitoring the market to enforce compliance.
