A recent study has revealed a significant knowledge gap among Russians regarding recommended daily food consumption. The research, conducted by various health authorities and consumer behaviour centres, paints a concerning picture of the nation's understanding of healthy eating habits. The study found that a substantial 30% of Russians are unaware of which foods are recommended for daily consumption. This lack of knowledge is not limited to a specific type of food. Only 22% of Russians understand the guidelines for potatoes, and just 35% know the recommended bread consumption. Even more alarming, a third of Russians are poorly informed about the Ministry of Health's dietary guidelines for food intake, according to a study by Roskachestvo's Center for Consumer Behavior Research. Experts have also highlighted the poor understanding of specific nutrients. Only 43% of Russians are informed about the recommended salt intake, and 45% know the suggested sugar limits. Moreover, 37% of Russians are aware of the proper daily amounts of eggs and fruit. These findings suggest a widespread lack of understanding about balanced and healthy eating habits in Russia. Despite these concerning findings, there is a glimmer of hope. The ready-meal market in Russia has shown significant growth, expanding by 40% in 2024 to reach 4 trillion rubles. Experts predict this market will continue to grow, tripling in size to 14 trillion rubles. This growth could potentially indicate a shift towards healthier eating habits, as ready-meal manufacturers often cater to consumers seeking balanced and nutritious meals. However, concerted efforts are needed to educate the public about the Ministry of Health's dietary guidelines to ensure a healthier Russia.
