Saarland glows green to honor children with life-limiting illnesses
From February 9 to 11, 2026, Saarland will glow green in support of children with life-limiting illnesses. The region's landmarks, including the Saarbrücken State Theatre and Felsberg-Berus broadcasting facility, will be lit up to mark National Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Day on February 10. The campaign aims to raise awareness and show solidarity with affected families across Germany.
The Saarland Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Team will join the initiative by illuminating its headquarters in green. Founded on April 1, 2006, the team is a joint effort by three organizations. It provides medical, nursing, and psychosocial support to families from diagnosis onward, often for years afterward.
The green ribbon, a symbol of hope and unity, will be displayed across the region. Residents are encouraged to wear it, visit information stands, or donate to local hospice services. Currently, the team supports around 200 families in Saarland and neighboring areas, including Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, and Baden-Württemberg.
Funded mainly by donations, the team offers ambulatory hospice care and specialized outpatient palliative services. Their work ensures families receive continuous, compassionate support during difficult times.
The green lights and ribbons will highlight the importance of children's hospice care. The campaign invites public participation through donations, education, and visible displays of support. Organizers hope the event will strengthen awareness and funding for families in need.
