Schools launch tailored meal plans for children with disabilities and dietary needs
Specialized meal plans for children with disabilities are being introduced in the region's schools, reports the KamINFORM news agency, citing the administration of Yelizovo.
Students attending morning classes receive free breakfasts, while those in the afternoon shift are provided with lunches.
Based on the updated standard menu for children aged 7–11 and 12–18—implemented in the region's schools since 2023—the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization Institute of Industry Nutrition (Moscow) has developed tailored meal options for children with: - gastrointestinal disorders; - diabetes; - food allergies (lactose-free); - gluten allergies.
Schools have also established facilities compliant with Sanitary Rules and Norms (SanPiN) to accommodate children with dietary restrictions, allowing them to bring homemade meals prepared by their parents ("home menus"). The necessary equipment—including refrigerators, microwaves for reheating, and specialized tableware—is provided.
The regional office of Rospotrebnadzor (Russia's consumer rights watchdog) oversees the quality and safety of all food supplies. Additionally, schools maintain a system of parental oversight for monitoring student meal programs.
