Self-Help - A Strong Network!
AOK has announced €19,875 in funding for health projects across Weilheim-Schongau, Landsberg am Lech, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2025. The money will support self-help groups that assist people dealing with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and mental health challenges. These initiatives aim to improve quality of life by fostering shared experiences and mutual support.
AOK has backed self-help initiatives for more than 30 years, offering both financial aid and organisational guidance. The programmes focus on conditions like depression and anxiety, where group discussions can complement medical treatment.
On October 16, 2025, AOK Director Stefan Schackmann will host a 'Self-Help in Dialogue' event in Landsberg am Lech. The gathering invites local self-help groups to exchange ideas and experiences. Ms. Köller, who leads self-help support for the Munich Self-Help Center, commended AOK Landsberg’s commitment to these initiatives. The event emphasised empathy and recognition for those facing illness or social difficulties. Under the slogan *‘You don’t have to face it alone—together, we grow stronger,’* participants discussed how group support helps individuals cope with their situations. Each year, different self-help groups from the three districts are encouraged to take part in such activities.
The €19,875 funding will enable self-help groups to continue their work in 2025. These groups provide a space for sharing concerns and finding collective strength. AOK’s long-standing support ensures that people in the region have access to vital peer networks.
