Shipping ministry hands over water ambulance for coastal people

A modern water ambulance has been handed over to Monpura upazila to improve emergency healthcare in remote coastal areas. The vessel, named Shaheed Osman Hadi Water Ambulance, was officially transferred at a ceremony held at Ramnewaz Launch Ghat on Friday.

The initiative aims to provide faster medical assistance to communities surrounded by rivers and sea, where access to hospitals is often difficult.

The Ministry of Shipping led the project under the guidance of shipping adviser M Sakhawat Hossain. He emphasised the government’s focus on ensuring healthcare access for people in isolated and coastal regions.

At the handover event, the adviser formally passed the ambulance to the Monpura upazila administration. The vessel is designed to transport patients quickly, deliver emergency medical care, and support rapid healthcare responses in hard-to-reach areas.

Another water rescue boat, named Inqilab Mancha, was also introduced as part of flood relief efforts in 2024. This boat was named in honour of Mohammad Yunus, the spokesperson for Bangladesh’s interim government (Inqilab Mancha).

The new water ambulance will serve as a critical link for medical emergencies in Monpura’s riverine and coastal communities. With improved transport and healthcare support, residents in these remote areas now have better access to urgent treatment.
