SilverSneakers Expands Access to Fitness for Seniors

SilverSneakers, a fitness program designed for seniors aged 65 and above, is now more accessible than ever. This initiative, created to promote active aging, is included at no extra cost in certain Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Medigap plans.

SilverSneakers offers a comprehensive range of benefits, including access to thousands of participating gyms nationwide, specialized fitness classes, and online resources. Upon enrollment, members receive a membership card granting them access to these facilities.

Enrollment is straightforward. Individuals can check their eligibility and sign up through the SilverSneakers website, or by contacting their support team at 866-584-7389 or [email protected]. Even if their current plan doesn't cover SilverSneakers, individuals can still enroll online. However, those who wish to switch to a Medicare Advantage plan that offers the SilverSneakers benefit should consider the specific details and timelines for plan changes.

It's important to note that SilverSneakers has no official age requirement. Eligibility depends solely on whether a plan includes the service. While Original Medicare (parts A and B) does not cover SilverSneakers, certain Medigap plans and all Medicare Advantage plans do. Ineligibility is usually due to a plan not participating in the program or a change in plan benefits.

SilverSneakers, with its extensive benefits and easy enrollment process, encourages active and healthy lifestyles among seniors. While there's no additional cost for the service in eligible plans, it's crucial to understand the monthly premiums and other costs associated with the specific Medicare Advantage or Medigap plan chosen.
