Solingen School and Firefighters Forge New Career Paths for Students

Solingen’s Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule has teamed up with the local fire department to create new career pathways for students. The long-term partnership will offer hands-on experience in firefighting and emergency response. Starting in 2025, tailored training programs will open doors for pupils looking to join the fire service directly after school.

The collaboration will introduce a staged training model from 2025, blending foundational craft skills with fire-service qualifications. Students will gain practical knowledge through information sessions, themed weeks, and joint projects. The fire department will also have a regular presence at school events, giving pupils direct exposure to the profession.

The initiative will give students clear routes into emergency response careers while supporting the fire department’s recruitment needs. With structured training and practical experience, the program is set to shape professional futures for young people in Solingen.
